I was curious about driving the screws in the tendon into a recessed mortise. I did a couple of experiments and found I could drive with the magnet held back from the projecting end by at least 11mm. Hence when I milled the 45-degree pocket that is the depth I used. The magnet rested on the Z piece to drive into the 14mm deep females in the mortise.
