Can the magnetic fields of INVIS cause problems?

No adverse effects of the small permanent magnets in the INVIS joining elements have been reported. These magnets are active only in the very immediate surrounding of the joiner; the magnet field weakens rapidly with increasing distance to the joiner. Already at a distance of ca. 3 cm, the magnet is almost undetected.

Care must be taken, however, when operating the actuator. This device generates a strong, rotating magnet field and must be kept away from magnetic data storage media. If you wear a pace-maker, please refer to the owner’s manual.

How to insert joiners and studs correctly?

To assure correct insertion in a right angle, the inserting gauge must be used.
Remark: The wood is being pushed aside when the joiner is inserted. When using thin materials, splitting of the work piece can be avoided by giving counter-pressure with the help of clamps.

When processing hard materials, we recommend the use of a non-fat gliding agent, such as bee-wax in order to minimize inserting torque. (See also „Use of INVIS in hard plastic materials“ above)

Can I use INVIS in plastic materials?

INVIS can be used in all non magnetic materials. In very hard and/or brittle materials (e.g. acrylic glass) we recommend to:

pre-cut the thread of the joiner (thread cutter 8 mm, Art.-No. 6108061 / Thread cutter 12 mm, Art.-No.: 6112061)
widen the pre-drilling for the stud up to 6.2 mm, depending on the material in use. With this the inserting torque of the stud can be kept within a reasonable range.
